Singer, songwriter and worship leader at Mariners Church
Tim Timmons serves as the worship leader at one of the largest churches in the country, Mariners Church, which attracts up to 12,000 people each week. Timmons has also emerged as an independent singer, songwriter and recording artist, and has released three albums: “The Grateful,” “Destinations” and “Live from the Tent.”
Most important lesson learned:
On my journey with cancer, I have the bittersweet privilege of knowing the worth of each day. It’s a little bit like barely avoiding a car accident and having those next grateful moments in which you realize the true value of life – how much you love your wife, how precious your daughter’s Eskimo kisses are, how insignificant the thing that stressed you out at work really was. It’s in those moments that it becomes clear what is and is not important. I get to have those kinds of realizations daily, and for that I am grateful.
Next big step:
I am doing a lot more songwriting for myself, for Mariners Church and for other Christian and secular projects. I am beginning work on my next worship album that will hopefully be out by the end of the year and traveling more as a worship leader/songwriter. On the home front, my goal is to be a great husband and dad – now to two kids!
Advice for other young professionals:
One of the greatest pieces of wisdom that has been ingrained in me from a young age (thanks, Dad) is to simply remain humble and never stop being a learner. It’s been said, “Pride comes before the fall.”
What you do for fun:
Surfing, swimming, cooking, writing songs, recording, reading, walking around Balboa Island with my family
If you could have dinner with anyone – alive or dead – who would it be and why?
Jesus – leave it to the Christian music guy to answer with such a cliché, but we are talking about the man who entirely changed history. In our culture, I think we view Jesus as a nice, tame guy, but he was actually incredibly radical and challenging. I am constantly in pursuit of knowing and following the real Jesus, so to sit down to a dinner with him would be, to say the least, earth-shattering.
