An Orange County native, Doug Francis heads General Cannabis Inc., a technology-driven company headquartered in Newport Beach that holds the leading position in defining the new multibillion-dollar cannabis industry. Through its subsidiaries, General Cannabis also provides financial and management services, and advertising opportunities to the industry.
The company operates the industry’s largest Web vertical, anchored by WeedMaps.com, an online community connecting medical marijuana patients with each other and marijuana businesses. Firm revenue hit $7.7 million last year.
Francis is a multitasker, too. Since 2007, he has served as the CEO of Synergistic Resources LLC, specializing in the management of physician-owned health-care facilities throughout California. Then he became CEO of WeedMaps in 2009, and the company revenue grew more than 600 percent in a year.
