Despite a recession that has caused a steep decline in philanthropy, Goodwill of Orange County has seen an increase in charitable contributions during the past two years.
This can be attributed to Nicole Suydam, who changed the fundraising strategy to focus on contributions from individuals and raised more community awareness through The Real Goodwill, the nonprofit’s one-hour introductory tour. During the past eight years that she has been vice president, Suydam has tripled major gift revenue, expanded Goodwill’s estate and legacy giving program, and led the $7 million fundraising campaign to create the Goodwill Fitness Center, which allows people with disabilities to stay healthy. She is an active member of the Orange County Business Council, working with members looking to hire employees with disabilities and utilize Goodwill’s business services.
“I enjoy leading teams and empowering others to discover their best talents and abilities,” Suydam says.
