Berenika Schmitz has played everywhere from the Wigmore Hall in London to the Green Music Center in Sonoma, for luminaries such as composer Philip Glass and producer Steven Spielberg. At one point she was presented to Queen Elizabeth as the star pianist at Oxford University, where she was obtaining a master’s degree. Before that, Schmitz graduated from the famed Julliard School and magna cum laude from Harvard.
Her love of music began early. Schmitz started piano at the age of 3 and performed as a soloist with a symphony orchestra at age 9. In her travels around the world, she played with orchestras like the Santa Rosa Symphony, Oxford Philomusica and Pittsburgh Symphony. Three years ago, she married a U.S. Marine and moved to Dana Point to be near his base at Camp Pendleton, where she is vice president of the Officer’s Wives’ Club.
Schmitz also works as the artistic director for the city of Dana Point and founded the city’s Coastal Arts Concert Series, so that her community could enjoy classical music.
