After being laid off from a corporate job as a human resources exec, Theresa Watts took the knowledge gained working on international mergers and acquisitions to start her own company.
While traveling in Europe two years ago, Watts saw an innovative product that wasn’t sold in the United States and instantly decided that she would fill that void. The product? An exotic outdoor heater that mimics a live flame, giving any patio or backyard a touch of beauty and elegance. The Italian product did not have an importer here, so she and a partner purchased the exclusive rights to market Ferrara Flame in North America.
Since then, Ferrara Flame has quickly become a top-selling luxury outdoor brand in the worst recession in decades. Additionally, Watts is one of very few female importers and has carved a unique niche in an area not explored by many women. She credits this success to partnering with smart individuals, leading ethically, being a good listener, focusing on customer service and being able to constantly scan the environment for viable opportunities.
