Biggest
failure: “Anytime I keep my mouth shut for fear of what others would
say about my ideas. You just can’t succeed by doing that.”
You
may not know her name, but if you’re a hockey fan, you’ve probably seen
Mariana Stoopen’s work. She’s the mastermind behind the Anaheim Ducks’
and Honda Center’s in-your-face graphics.
She graduated from
Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and
worked for a time as a ride operator at Disneyland. That’s where she
met a fellow ride operator who designed for Honda Center. The
relationship opened a door to her chosen career path.
This
season marks her first as the senior graphic designer for the Anaheim
Ducks – the professional hockey team previously owned by Disney. She’s
charged with creating just the right look and feel for the team
graphically, and she puts her fingerprints on the ticket stock,
300-foot banners and other printed materials.
She also
designs the creative concepts for more than 120 live performances that
hit the Honda Center’s stage each year, uniquely accentuating each
show’s image.
Stoopen is proud to work for the NHL team,
especially since it’s her first job in the industry. And in her spare
time, Stoopen designs necklaces, rings and bracelets. Someday, she
hopes to open a shop to sell her handmade jewelry.
