Matt Tubergen Founder of Azomob mobile applications
Q: What was your big breakthrough? A: My biggest breakthrough was experienced during my time at a mobile content startup that supplied ringtones and wallpapers to all major carriers. This was before the ringtone phenomenon had begun. We created thousands of pieces of mobile content on a weekly basis and invested significantly into a medium that wasn’t known at that time. Over the following two years – 2003 to 2005 – we had explosive growth growing the business tenfold every few months.
Q: What was your biggest failure? A: I’ve been fortunate to not have too many failures, but earlier in my career, there were times when I didn’t listen to clients closely, which ultimately resulted in a mediocre design.
Q: What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a designer? A: Watching products come to life and seeing my products in people’s hands, on the street, on a plane and even on TV.
Q: Who or what inspires you or your designs? A: It’s safe to say that my branded partners inspire the design of products that I have brought to market. I’m laser focused on bringing out my clients brand in all aspects of the product design process.
Q: What is your biggest goal or dream for the future? A: My biggest professional goal is to make sure I enjoy every day of my career. So far, I am obtaining that goal.
Q: What one piece of advice would you offer aspiring designers? A: Use your imagination. Have fun and always listen to those around you.
