Kelli Ellis
Celebrity interior designer and founder of Kelli Ellis Interiors

Q: What was your big breakthrough?
A: Following my instinct and auditioning for my first show, “Clean Sweep,” on TLC. Although very different from real-life designing, the vehicle allowed me to teach millions of DIYers, some of my favorite clients.

Q: What was your biggest failure?
A: Not using my TV exposure to educate viewers on the importance of space planning. So, I developed “The Kelli Kit,” a magnetic space planning board. Now my clients can save precious time and lots of money before shopping.

Q: What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a designer?
A: We are all trying to make our homes our havens. I know I've succeeded when my clients say, "I live in my dream home," or "It's exactly what we wanted." I must admit, I get a bit teary-eyed.

Q: Who or what inspires you or your designs?
A: My clients inspire me – constantly. I am so impressed by the inner-designer of each and every client I have. Their unique styles, desires and needs are my motivation and inspiration!

Q: What is your biggest goal or dream for the future?
A: I love coaching new and experienced designers on improving their businesses. I am currently developing a new program that will allow designers to expand their business on a national level for less than $40.

Q: What one piece of advice would you offer aspiring designers?
A: Respectfully remember you are there to help the homeowner create their dream home, and be honored they've asked for your guidance.
