Oday Shakar Founder and designer of Oday Shakar fashions
Q: What was your big breakthrough? A: My biggest breakthrough was doing a charity fashion show in Beverly Hills for Mercedes Benz when I was 21. That event gave me great exposure, and I was touted as the youngest couture designer in the show.
Q: What was your biggest failure? A: I don't really believe there are such things as failures. I feel you make mistakes, and each mistake is a learning experience that shapes you as a person and makes you stronger and better. To think of mistakes as failures is negative thinking, and I always try to surround myself with only positive energy. That is more productive.
Q: What's the most rewarding aspect of being a designer? A: Witnessing my designs come to life and how beautiful women feel in them.
Q: Who or what inspires you? A: When I was a boy, I was inspired by looking at old photographs of my mother. To me, women are the inspiration for all beauty in the world, and my goal is to design and create pieces to make every woman feel elegant; to create that unique experience for them when they step into one of my creations.
Q: What is your biggest goal or dream for the future? A: My biggest goal is to never become complacent and to always feel challenged. People often need to put monetary or tangible results on their goals and dreams, but I feel it's an attitude and a passion that comes from loving what you do. Being able to do what I love every day is my dream, and I'm living it now. I am very fortunate.
