![]() Age: 51 Status: Single, no children, with 46 cottages Blast from the past: Laura loved riding her horse at Crystal Cove and working at The Shake Shack making date shakes when she was 13 and 14 years old. Favorite Crystal Cove cottage: She says they are all special, but her favorite is Cottage No. 2, the Shell Shack, her family’s beach house for 40 years. Why Laura loves her job: “This has been an amazing adventure and a life-changing experience, both for me and for others who visit Crystal Cove.” Best way to view a sunset in Crystal Cove: “From any place in this magical state park during one of our very ‘covey’ membership events – please join us!” Laura Davick first fought to save Crystal Cove, an O.C. landmark, and now she’s made it her mission to sustain it. As founder and first president of the Crystal Cove Alliance, Davick has helped introduce 13 new educational programs, launch the Park & Marine Research Facility and raise $5.7 million for additional restoration. Several years back, Davick spearheaded a campaign to prevent a planned luxury resort from taking over Crystal Cove, proposing that the Cove’s historic cottages be kept intact for overnight rentals and educational uses. Today, the Crystal Cove Alliance has become one of the most successful public-private partnership models in the history of the California State Parks system. Laura is now director of external affairs, and she continues to fight for sustainability of the cove. OCMETRO'S 2010 HOT 25 HONOREES
