Troy & Josh Rodarmel

• FOUNDERS AND OWNERS OF POWER BALANCE

Ages: Troy (right), 36; Josh (below), 26

Status: Troy is married to wife, Malin, with three children – Elsa, 7; Taiten, 5; and Maija, 2.
Josh is single.

Football genes: Josh played college football at Yale; Troy put on a helmet for Cal Baptist University.

Josh’s take on brotherly love: “Growing up, Troy and I never really knew exactly what we wanted to do for work, but we always knew that we wanted to do it together. We both feel really lucky to get to do something we enjoy – and even luckier to get to do that together.”

Early training: In an effort to help Josh work on his speed and agility, Troy used to train his little brother by shooting at him with the family BB gun as Josh tried to dodge the pellets. Josh was rarely successful and remains slow to this day.

Brothers Troy and Josh Rodarmel have created this era’s version of the copper bracelet that was said to cure arthritis. While they don’t espouse to cure anything, in 2007, they unveiled the Power Balance bracelet, advertised as being embedded with a frequency that allegedly improves the body’s “energy flow.” Testimonials on their website speak to a range of benefits, but athletes speak mostly of improvements in balance, strength and flexibility. The Power Balance wristbands, manufactured by the brothers’ Laguna Niguel company of the same name, can be see on athletes, including Alex Rodriguez, Lamar Odom, Teemu Selanne, Carson Palmer and David Beckham. Power Balance, which employs a staff of more than 60, also has a line of necklaces said to have the same powers as the wristband. In all, the brothers have sold more than 3 million units.
