If you could coordinate any event, what would it be? My current dream event would have to be coordinating and executing a large multivendor, multifaceted, shopping-charity auction-concert festival benefiting Ronda’s Dream Center, a local nonprofit project that I have been working closely with as a community involvement manager.
While earning her degree in psychology at UC San Diego, Janet Hamada discovered a secondary education working the sales floor at Nordstrom, watching fashion trends shift and styles emerge. And she soon noticed a talent for trend forecasting.
She launched her online store, ShopModerne.com, last year. Initially working as the sole employee, buyer, customer service representative and packing-shipping department, she now has more than 30 employees. Her success is the result of persistence and hard work. When she faced problems with brand exposure and market penetration, she coordinated shopping events to gain recognition and generate sales.
But Hamada’s business is one with heart. In everything that she does, she believes that it’s important to give back to her community. Every event she participates in contributes to a community or nonprofit organization: “Philanthropy and giving back to the community are key philosophies at Moderne.”
