![]() Years in business: 45 Status: Committed to the environment Weekend road warriors: On weekends, a few LPA executives and employees enjoy visiting LPA projects on their Big Dog Choppers. They call their excursion days Big Dogs, Buildings and Barbecue. Doing more with less: “Design matters,” says Dan Heinfeld, LPA’s president. “There has never been a better time to be a design professional than right now, even with the economy being what it is. We are being asked by our clients to do more with less, and our integrated practice of architects and engineers has been the key in making the work that we’re doing now the best it has been in the history of the company. We are very excited about the future of sustainable design and the part that we can play in California’s sustainable future.” One of Southern California’s greenest companies, Irvine-based LPA Inc.’s environmentally friendly architecture for cities, schools and corporations has changed the way we govern, recreate, learn and do business. This year, the company ranked No. 5 among the nation’s greenest design firms in education by Engineering News Record. LPA has become a national leader in LEED-certified school and municipal design, and was responsible for the makeover of the new corporate home for 1,500 Western Digital employees in Irvine. The firm’s commitment to sustainable design is evident throughout Orange County. Recent projects include the Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach, the Laguna Beach Community & Susi-Q Senior Center, Brea Sports Park, Santiago Canyon College’s Science and Humanities Complex and the renovation of the historic Bell Tower at Newport Harbor High School. LPA’s love affair with green architecture started with the Irvine Ranch Water District headquarters in 1990, and the Premier Automotive Headquarters in Irvine. LPA’s thinking is that a focus on sustainability is really a focus on better design. By solving the problems that are important to its clients – like reduced energy use, material reductions, efficiency, better indoor air quality and other sustainability issues – its design solutions become balanced, smart and, most importantly, beautiful.
