Will Kempton

• CEO, ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY

Age: 63

Status: Married to wife, Beverley, with two adult children, Mark and Christina

Destiny: In grade school, he was voted “Most Likely to be President”

On the move: He runs an average of 20 miles per week

Favorite Orange County bus route: 453 (Orange Metrolink station to OCTA)

Why he loves his job: “From San Clemente to Buena Park, anywhere I travel in this county, it’s incredibly rewarding to see firsthand the positive impact that improving our transportation network has on the residents, businesses and visitors.”

Will Kempton has successfully navigated the Orange County Transportation Authority through the worst financial crisis in the agency’s history. With Kempton in the driver’s seat since June 2009, OCTA enacted innovative measures. Among them: utilizing $76 million in stimulus funds for bus capital and operations, implementing a hiring and wage freeze, and authorizing the use of $68 million in rail funds and $40 million in reserves for bus operations.

Kempton now looks forward to the Measure M2 sales tax program, which begins April 1. “Measure M2 has allowed us to enhance the way in which people in this county move,” Kempton says. “Our top priority now is ensuring we successfully deliver on the promises made to voters when they approved M2.”
