The shows’ rich content is a perfect concept for video games, according to Crave Entertainment’s Executive Vice President Betsi Gijanto.
“The Discovery Channel has captivated millions of viewers by delivering nonstop action and suspense in these unique programs,” she says. '''Man vs. Wild' and 'Deadliest Catch' capture man’s struggle to survive amidst the perils of nature on land and at sea.”
Sue Perez-Jackson, director of licensing for Discovery Channel, calls Crave the "obvious choice" for the two brands, because of its publishing approach and its work to offer realistic content to gamers.
Crave Entertainment plans to produce both titles for PlayStation3, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. "Man vs. Wild" will also be available on the Xbox 360 system. Digital downloadable versions will be found online on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
The deal was brokered on behalf of Discovery Communications by its licensing agent, The Joester Loria Group. It is for the North American market.
Crave Entertainment is a full-service video game publisher for Wii, Nintendo DS, the PSP system, PlayStation2 and PlayStation3 computer entertainment systems, and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment product from Microsoft.
