Garden Grove-based Crystal Cathedral Ministries and the San Juan Capistrano Community Redevelopment Agency, along with Continuing Life Communities, are entering into an agreement for a 150-acre plot of land. Crystal Cathedral Ministries owns 170 acres in the northwestern part of the city, known as Rancho Capistrano.

Continuing Life Communities – which operates retirement communities throughout California – plans to develop 34 acres of that property into an upscale assisted living and retirement community, while the agency can acquire the remaining 116 acres for open-space preservation.

The agreement will enter into escrow this week, wherein the San Juan Capistrano Community Redevelopment Agency will purchase 116 acres of land – 70 percent of the space – for $10 million. The retirement community development and open-space acquisition will be completed in the next four to five years.

Crystal Cathedral Ministries will continue to occupy 20 acres of the land, currently home to a retreat center and chapel.

Readers Feedback:

We are frankly dismayed to see the younger Dr. Schuyler dismissed by his father. The older Schuyler has an ego problem and is reaching an age where for the good of the ministry, he should not be calling the shots. Under the son, the program had become a vibrant presentation of the Word of God - the father is more like a bad Shakespearian actor and not true to a Biblical presentation. We see the ministry failing unless the elders step in and take charge in the best interests of the ministry.
