When the Dana Point Concours d’Elegance rolls into Orange County this June, the iconic local car show will be celebrating its 31st anniversary and debuting an expanded schedule of events that will add a third day of activities to its program. The show celebrates classically restored pre-war and post-war era cars and motorcycles, and in an effort to better reflect the exhibition’s new format, the event’s organizers have renamed it the Orange County Collector Car & Motorcycle Weekend.

The newly minted three-day event will begin on Friday, June 21 at Dana Point’s St. Regis Monarch Beach resort and will feature various activities and exhibits for classic-car enthusiasts of all ages, culminating with the Concours d’Elegance that Sunday.

“Southern California is one of the most automotive-centric places in the world, which has propelled the Dana Point Concours’ evolution into a multi-day celebration of the hobby,” said the Jeff Spellens, president of the Dana Point Concours d’Elegance. “With so many additional activities that complement the Concours, it is time to present the weekend in a way that better reflects that growth.”

This is not the first time the car show has retooled its image during its 31-year history. When the first contest debuted in 1983, it was known as the Newport Beach Concours d’Elegance, and it took place on UC Irvine’s campus. The Concours left UCI after 10 years and spent the next 15 years moving across different venues in the Irvine area until it settled at the St. Regis Monarch Beach resort in Dana Point in 2008. It was then renamed the Dana Point Concours d’Elegance in honor of its new home.

This year, the Concours will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Duesenberg by featuring it as this year’s automobile marque. Other special car classes will include the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin, the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911, and the 25th anniversary of the BMW M3. The Concours will also highlight Harley-Davidson as the featured motorcycle marque in honor of that brand’s 110th anniversary.

The Orange County Collector Car & Motorcycle Weekend will take place from June 21 to 23, 2013.
