Latest survey adds fuel to Toll Road vs. Trestles debate

Survey is said to have asked leading questions of respondents.

The debate over whether or not the 16-mile Foothill South Toll Road extension will negatively impact the surrounding area, including Trestles Beach in San Clemente, is heating up once again.  A recent poll of some 400 OC residents showed that the majority of respondents were in favor of the construction until more information was provided. Then, support for the project declined. Some challenge that the additional information in the survey questioning was vague and misleading and was written in a way that would yield the desired statistical information.

The survey in question was conducted by the California State Parks Foundation, which is a coalition of organizations opposed to the project. The foundation says it was conducted by a nonpartisan team in late August.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration could put an end to the debate on September 22 when they hear all sides present their cases at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Requests to speak must be filed in advance of the meeting, and the Administration says it will review and select a representative sampling of submissions.
