Oktoberfest

The Balboa Bay Club & Resort’s First Cabin Restaurant has lined up a special Oktoberfest menu that will be available for the entire month, starting Thursday, Oct. 1, and continuing through Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31.
   
The culinary and management staff has deep Bavarian roots, so this is the month the resort’s restaurants put on their celebratory best, and Austrian Chef Josef Lageder and his international team have the opportunity to present favorite dishes from their homeland to Orange County revelers.
   
The menu features authentic German and Bavarian specialties, with many ingredients and beers flown in for the month-long celebration.
   
Appetizers include marinated herring, celery root salad and “lisen suppe” (lentil soup with applewood-smoked bacon and sliced wurstchen).
   
Main courses offer a selection of entrée favorites: paprika goulash (slow braised beef and homemade spaetzle), wienerschnitzel (center-cut breaded veal loin served with potato and cucumber salad), rindsroulade (braised beef roulade filled with pickles and vegetables), “gebratene schweinshaxen” (slow-roasted pork shank with bread dumplings, red cabbage and caraway jus), to name just a few.
   
Desserts will include such favorites as apfelstrudel a la mode (warm apple strudel with vanilla bean ice cream). Three freshly imported beers – Paulaner Old Munich Bier, Aktien Oktoberfest and Edel Biers – were specially chosen to complement each menu item.
