My husband ordered the lamb chops with watercress salad, caramelized
tomatoes and a side of Scallion Potato Cakes – like hash browns, only
so much tastier. He must have enjoyed it, because he hardly spoke
during the course.
I mentioned the wine: Andrei’s list is
diverse and reasonably priced. Still, I wasn’t sure we’d find one that
paired well with both entrées. But we did: Duck Pond’s Decoy red wine.
It even went with our desserts. We ordered two: the Delicieuse Ice
Cream tasting and the Guittard Chocolate Tasting.
First,
the ice cream: four scoops – cinnamon, saffron, chocolate and coconut –
brilliantly served in four mini-waffle cones and presented in a shiny
silver stand. Next, the chocolate tasting was sheer indulgence:
Chocolate Pot de Créme (silky smooth); Chocolate Saucisson (kind of
like a chocolate sausage chock full of almonds); a rich, dark chocolate
mini-cake (like velvet); all punctuated by a few drops of vanilla-
bean-infused crème anglaise with fresh raspberries on top.
