In some cases, it’s the innate sense that some entrepreneurs have – a
voice within that tells them they have an idea that can materialize
into something great, or at least profitable.
We
recognized Jain among our 2009 40 Under 40 honorees in May. A certified
fitness instructor, she had been captivated by the Bhangra-style music
and dance of India from a very young age. She incorporated it into an
exercise routine that she taught in her fitness classes in Yorba Linda.
In 1999, she made a videotape. Six more tapes have followed since then,
and Jain and her Masala Bhangra Workout have been featured on “The
Today Show” and “Dr. Oz,” among other television shows.
I hear these types of stories all the time. And I never get tired of it. I learn something new every time.
It’s fascinating to see how each person recognized that unique idea or talent and then found a way to capitalize on it.
That’s
not to say it was easy. I’ve yet to hear a story that didn’t have some
drama. As you’ll find out in this month’s feature, “The color of
success” (page 36), there’s always a challenge – some type of adversity
– that the hero or heroine in the story has had to overcome.
I’m
certain you’ll find the stories we bring you this month just as
inspiring, just as fascinating. You may recognize some of the names –
Raj Bhathal of RAJ Manufacturing, a leading swimwear design house and
manufacturer, or Chuck Hong of Netlist, an IT product manufacturer. All
have achieved a level of success that every entrepreneur hopes to
experience.
And it’s their journey that, I think, will surprise you.
