It's that time again: Ernst & Young, which has local offices in Irvine, is searching for this year's Entrepreneur of the Year for Orange County/Desert Cities. The deadline for applications is March 19.

The regional awards, which are slated for June 17 at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine, honor local business professionals who have shown success in new advancements, financial strength and commitment to both their companies and local communities.

The program is in its 24th year, and it is among the most highly regarded business awards in the country.

"Ernst & Young has recognized leading entrepreneurs for their contributions to society for nearly a quarter of a century," says Kim Letch, director of the local program.

She says these individuals help to create jobs – a key issue in the economic downturn – boost the economy and create a positive environment for local businesses and the region.

Winners are chosen by a panel of independent judges, which includes local business owners. The decision-makers often include past awardees, leaders from civic agencies and schools.
