This week, Anaheim-based luxury electric automaker Fisker Automotive reported that the company has signed an exclusive agreement with a large auto distributor corporation in the Middle East and North Africa.

The new agreement with the Al-Futtaim Group, one of the region’s most experienced auto distributors, will significantly expand Fisker’s presence in a fast-growing market for performance and luxury vehicles. The corporation, which is part of a conglomerate that oversees retail, technology, hospitality, financial and real estate ventures, has 70 years of experience marketing and selling automotive brands, including Lexus, Volvo, Jeep, Dodge, Honda and Chrysler.

“Fisker Automotive is committed to changing the automotive landscape globally, delivering a more sustainable future through our products,” said Henrik Fisker, executive chairman for Fisker Automotive. “It’s essential for us to compete strongly in the Middle East and Gulf region as the company expands outside America and extends its reach globally.”

The group runs automotive dealer networks across the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) region, which will market Fisker’s luxury plug-in hybrid vehicles in key markets at luxury retailers.

Len Hunt, president of Automotive for the Al-Futtaim Group, said the company is looking forward to representing Fisker as the luxury automaker’s exclusive distributor in the region.

“Al-Futtaim has built strength and credibility in delivering great customer experience through its well-established automotive operations in Egypt and the [neighboring Gulf] countries,” Hunt said.

The first dealership to carry Fisker Automotive vehicles is located in Dubai Festival City, and will begin selling the Fisker Karma later this year. Later expansions will establish a Fisker presence in the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Egypt.

The news comes on the heels of Fisker Automotive’s unveiling of its new Atlantic four-door sedan model design at the New York Auto Show earlier this month.
