Leonardo DiCaprio, Hollywood star and environmental activist, has partnered with Anaheim’s Fisker Automotive in a mutual endeavor to advocate for global sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The partnership will include DiCaprio’s involvement in planning discussions with the company to develop sustainable strategies and further promote the development of environmentally responsible vehicles. DiCaprio will further work with the company on marketing projects for the automaker in promoting its sustainable vehicles. As part of the collaboration, Fisker will now serve as a partner to the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in supporting its charitable projects around the world.
“The Karma sedan – Fisker Automotive’s first car – is built according to the company’s sustainable and Accountable Design philosophy, which represents a dramatic leap forward for the auto industry,” says Henrik Fisker, executive chairman and chief designer and Fisker Automotive. “Fisker’s approach to responsible luxury goes well beyond minimizing fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions. Fisker uses renewable materials and the lowest-impact technologies at every stage of the engineering, production and marketing processes.”
DiCaprio, best known for his roles in Titanic and more recently Inception, is perhaps not as well known for his commitment to sustainable causes and promotion of environmental issues. The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF), founded by the actor in 1998, supports and works on a number of environmental causes, including clean oceans, environmental disaster relief, renewable energy, and wildlife protection, among others.
“My foundation supports efforts to secure a sustainable future for our planet and all its inhabitants,” says DiCaprio. “I am delighted to be working with Fisker Automotive to promote this shared vision.”
Designed to appeal to luxury car buyers as an environmentally conscious choice, the Karma includes reclaimed and recycled materials in its construction, including recycled interior wood trim, “Diamond Dust” paint that has flakes of recycled glass to reflect light, and animal-free interiors.
DiCaprio’s involvement with Fisker includes both his position as an investor in the company, and as a Karma owner. He received the very first 2012 Fisker Karma in July 2011, fresh off the production line. Besides his Karma, he also owns a Tesla Roadster and a Toyota Prius.
