Four Orange County-based firms were honored in a variety of categories at the 8th annual International Business Awards, presented last week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Dubbed the “Stevies” (after the word “crowned” in Greek), the awards recognize companies around the world in more than 40 categories of achievements and noteworthy distinctions.

The big winner of the evening was Quality Systems Inc., a healthcare and medical services software firm based in Irvine. The company received three Stevie awards, in the categories of Company of the Year in the field of Computer Services; Best Video in the field of Technology Sales; and Information Technology Executive of the Year, honoring CEO Steven Plochocki. In addition, the company was voted the People’s Choice as the favorite computer services company.
The firm also took Distinguished Honoree recognitions in eight categories, including Company of the Year in the field of Computer Software , Company of the Year in the field of Health Products and Services, and Best Corporate Image Event.
"Quality Systems and its management team have been acknowledged on many levels across various awards programs during the past several years but we consider this to be a very significant recognition,” said Plochocki. “In the International Business Awards competition, we were pitted against some of the world's leading organizations, and to emerge a winner in four categories while in the company of so many prestigious entities is truly an achievement for Quality Systems and a real testament to our hard-working team”.
Plochocki, the recipient of the IT Executive of the Year Stevie, also received Distinguished Honoree recognitions in the categories of Executive of the Year for the field of Health Products and Services, and Executive of the Year in the field of Computer Software.
Quality Systems’ leadership was further saluted with a Distinguished Honoree nod to Sheldon Razin, in the category of Chairman of the Year; and Distinguished Honoree nods for Management Team of the Year; and Communications, Investor Relations or PR Executive of the Year, honoring Susan J. Lewis, the firm’s PR and investor relations specialist.
"We are very gratified to be honored with these International Business Awards and appreciate that the judges recognized our growing organization and its place within the healthcare IT sector. Quality Systems Chairman and Founder Sheldon Razin proudly accepted these awards on behalf of the Company while in attendance at the ceremony in Abu Dhabi. Accepting these awards from across the world and reflecting on how far the Company has come since he founded it back in 1973, was truly a monumental experience for both him and our entire organization," Plochocki concluded.
Other local companies honored at the event include Epicor Software Corp., based in Irvine, and SYSPRO, a software firm located in Costa Mesa. Both companies shared Distinguished Honoree recognitions with Quality Systems for Computer Software Company of the Year. In addition, Epicor received a Distinguished Honoree nod in the category Best New Computer Software Product or Service of the Year: New Version, for its Next Generation ERP Solution.
Another Orange County business, Creek Systems, a national job search and recruiting firm, received a Distinguished Honoree nod in the Best Web Design category. Creek Systems, located in Aliso Viejo, entered the international competition for the first time this year, after being honored with the Stevie Award for the Best Corporate Identity/Branding Design at the 2010 American Business Awards.
Creek Systems’ CEO, Kevin Daly, said receiving such a level of recognition in the international business community is an exciting achievement.
“The effort of our amazing team of professionals has made results like this possible. Our dedication to excellence in everything we do is enhanced when recognized on the international platform and solidifies our resolve to continue to advance our presence as a leader in the global marketplace,” Daly said.
Honorees for this year’s awards were selected from a field of more than 3,000 entries from more than 40 countries. Now in its eighth year, entries for the International Business Awards increased by more than 80 percent, according to Stevie Awards President Michael Gallagher, who said the surge marks the increasing importance of the IBAs in the international community.
