![]() In 2005, George Bernal launched Anatomical Designs, which creates exterior and interior business signs made out of recycled materials. He has worked with some well-known companies, including Rip Curl, Harveys and 686. Now, he lives and works in a three-story loft in Santa Ana, where the garage is his workspace, the first floor is a friend’s retail boutique called Lucky Owl and the second floor is occasionally dedicated to art shows and local musicians. Bernal always wanted to work in the action-sports industry. “They are about recycled everything,” he says, which worked with his niche of designing eco-friendly signs built out of recycled metal, wood, aluminum and even old chairs and fabric from furniture. “It’s great to take something you see on a piece of paper or computer and create something from it,” he says. “This is where the name ‘Anatomical’ comes from. My favorite definition of this word is ‘to take pieces of smaller elements and create something greater,’ and that’s what I do. I take all these different elements and make something from nothing.” In addition to corporate signs, Bernal also creates inspirational art. One piece got the attention of Madonna’s publicist, who asked Bernal to make one specifically for the celeb. With the green movement now entering the business world, the process has led to a thriving company. Anatomical Designs’ success proves just that. |
