![]() The outdoor shopping complex, which began a recycling program in 1999, has ramped up its eco-friendly efforts in recent months, launching a recycling initiative, complete with a number of incentives. In March, containers were placed on all 10 loading docks so that tenants could recycle paper, plastic, aluminum and glass. A cardboard recycling program has been in place for several years. On Earth Day, shoppers driving hybrid, energy-efficient or electric cars, as well as natural-gas-powered vehicles, had their pick of choice parking spots right outside the main entrance. And year-round, The Block is home to two electric vehicle charging stations, available free of charge to shoppers. “The Block is continuing to look at new ways to go green,” says Scott Dobroski, a spokesman for the mall. Part of that, Dobroski says, includes greener branding that will adorn the recycle containers and other locations around The Block. New slogans up for consideration include “The Block at Orange: You do the Shopping, We’ll do the Recycling,” “Orange is Going Green,” “Be in Fashion ... Go Green,” and “Eat, Shop, Play, Recycle.” Located at the intersection of the 5, 22 and 57 freeways, The Block at Orange is home to nearly 100 outlet and retail stores, in addition to entertainment and dining venues. The property is part of The Mills portfolio, owned by the Simon Property Group. |
