![]() “It was started as a way to create a community for like-minded people,” says Linsi Brownson, an interior designer who is in charge of sponsorships and volunteers for OC Green Drinks. While green-minded individuals mingle with others who live by the same views, they are raising money for good causes. OC Green Drinks helps local charities and acquires sponsors. The group’s monthly event is held on the third Thursday of every month. Green Drinks is a movement that has taken root in more than 600 communities. The O.C. chapter was formed in 2006 by interior designer Rachel Hulan, who later handed over the reigns to Brownson, real estate agent Evan Little, and event planner Chrissy Gray. “We really picked things up with social media and sponsoring charities. Suddenly we had 40 to 60 regulars and occasionally have 80 to 100 at our events,” Brownson says. “Gray came in about a year ago, and she lines up most of our locations and sponsors now, so we’ve got a fairly seasoned organization for how new we are [as a group].” On May 20, OC Green Drinks members will meet at the Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano from 6 to 8 p.m. They will gather outside of the Cogden House, where the center’s museum and office are located. The cover charge is $10, and proceeds will go to the Ecology Center. ocgreendrinks.org |
