Aliso Viejo-based Grow Green Industries is launching a new product aimed at removing harmful chemicals and bacteria from produce, seafood and poultry.

Eat Cleaner is eco-friendly and made with Food and Drug Administration-approved Generally Recognized as Safe – aka GRAS – ingredients. It's said to be the first all-natural, odorless and tasteless lab-tested food wash that removes pesticides, waxes and surface debris. The line includes food wash, biodegradable produce wipes and household products.

This is the first product from Grow Green, which was formed in 2008 by Colorado State University Emeritus Professor Shawki Ibrahim, Ph.D. and daughter Mareya Ibrahim, a food marketing professional. And despite the downturn in the economy, the team believes this is actually one of the best times to introduce Eat Cleaner.

"As consumers are buckling down, they're actually eating more at home," says Mareya Ibrahim. She says food safety concerns are also at an all-time high, despite efforts from government-run agencies to decrease the amount of food-borne illnesses.

Among its other features: The product inhibits browning of light fleshed fruit and vegetables; prolongs shelf life; cleans countertops and cutting surfaces; and the packaging features recyclable plastic bottles, compostable substrate and concentrate refills.
