Guard a Heart Foundation named Charity of Choice for fashion event

Fashion Destination Group honors Heart Disease Awareness month at Intermix at South Coast Plaza

Irvine-based Guard a Heart foundation, a non-profit organization that raises awareness about prevention of heart disease, was named charity of choice at Fashion Destination’s annual “Get Glam” event on Jan. 31.

The event was held at Intermix at South Coast Plaza, which was fashioned into a festive party scene, featuring runway models styling fabulous designer fashions, appetizers, specialty cocktails and mini makeovers by Planet Earth. A portion of the proceeds went to benefit Guard a Heart Foundation and its "SaveThe1" campaign, designed to carry out the organization’s mission to raise awareness and education for Heart Disease.

Through its fundraising events, Guard a Heart has not only raised awareness for heart disease, one of the most preventable and most common causes of death, the organization has also provided the means and opportunity for individuals to take charge of their heart health.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death and it is preventable about 80 percent of the time,” said Marisa Kenson, founder of Fashion Destination. “We are proud to support organizations like Guard a Heart which continue to combat the devastating impact of heart disease through education and awareness.”
