Holiday Inn Costa Mesa set to get upscale new look

Owner Hanford Hotels leaves franchise system to open independent destination.

Holiday Inn Costa Mesa is set to get a chic, new look, feel – and name. Its owner, Newport Beach-based Hanford Hotels Inc., is leaving the franchise system to transform the property into an independently run hotel.

Dubbed The Hotel Hanford, the property will boast an upscale atmosphere throughout its guestrooms, restaurant and event venue. Hanford Hotels expects to invest more than $7 million into the new vision and redesign, which will officially open in December.

But with the economy in a downturn, is this the best time for a hotel to be renovating? Hanford Hotels President and CEO Donald Sodaro believes it is.

“We have been planning for this transition for more than two years," he says. "This is the right time and the right property for us to leverage our collective experience and intimate knowledge of the Orange County marketplace, to take an already successful hotel to the next level.”
