From the world of science fiction to the mind of Steve Jobs, Apple has launched its much-anticipated mobile Web-enabled device, the iPad – weighing in at 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inches thick – for surfing the Net, using e-mail, watching videos, downloading and listening to music, playing games and more.

Users can interact with content and 12 new customized apps on its high-resolution LED backlit display, Multi-Touch.

“The iPad creates and defines an entirely new category of devices that will connect users with their apps and content in a much more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before,” says Jobs, Apple’s chief executive.

The suggested retail price is $499 for the 16-GB model, $599 for the 32-GB and $699 for the 64-GB, available this month. The Wi-Fi and 3G models will be available in April at $629 for the 16-GB, $729 for the 32-GB and $829 for the 64-GB version.
