![]() To get the sleek and lesser-priced look for this latest mini-computer, TriGem engineers borrowed cutting-edge components typically found in more expensive notebooks. The latest Averatec features a glossy piano key-black casing with LED LCDs, a razor-thin 7-millimeter hard drive and a lithium-polymer battery. Three models, all with backlit 10-inch screens, offer either Windows XP Home or Windows 7 Starter operating systems. An option to extend battery life to six hours from the standard three is available, and a 1.3-megapixel webcam allows for videoconferencing and Web chat. “The lines between low-cost netbooks and ultra-portable notebooks are becoming blurred, and consumers are no longer satisfied with mere compact clamshell-shaped netbooks,” says Bob Davidson, senior vice president of TriGem USA. “They want all the premium styling and features found in ultra-portable notebooks, but at much more affordable prices.” The Averatec N1200 series has multiple storage options and a $329 to $379 price range. |
