Hyundai, Kia hold strong in December

Both O.C. automakers report upticks in sales last month and in 2009.

Local automakers are reporting their sales stats for December and the full year, and Irvine-based Kia and Fountain Valley-based Hyundai both continue to dominate sales.

Kia recorded its 15th consecutive year of increased market share, according to the company, with a 43.7 percent pop in December sales, compared to the same period in 2008. For the year, the automaker saw a 9.8 percent jump compared to 2008. Hyundai also reported a 40.6 percent uptick in numbers last month, compared to December 2008. For the year, sales rose 8 percent, compared to 2008.

Mazda also reported a small increase in December, though its 2009 sales were down, compared to 2008.
