Irvine's Brandman University seeks Tweets for upcoming gubernatorial debate

The institution is asking for questions about the state's financial crisis via Twitter for the Oct. 28 event.

Irvine's Brandman University is calling on the public to submit questions via Twitter for its upcoming California Republican gubernatorial debate between candidates Tom Campbell and Steve Poizner. The discussion, which will take place on Oct. 28, will focus on California’s current financial crisis and what solutions the candidates propose for mitigating the state’s fiscal woes.

The university sent the debate invitation to candidates through Twitter in August, and Campbell and Poizner Tweeted their acceptance. The event is believed to be the first political debate organized entirely on Twitter, according to Dr. Michael Moodian, assistant professor of social science at the school.

All Tweeted questions must relate to the impact of the budget deficit. Among the submissions already posed: "What are you going to do to restore adequate funding to prison rehab programs and California service providers?"

Queries can be sent through Twitter accounts to the hashtag #cadebate.

The deadline to submit questions is Friday, Oct. 23. To see all submitted questions, click here.
