Irvine City Council considers next step in Great Park construction

The electrical power improvement program is expected to cost $600,000.

The Irvine City Council on Tuesday will consider approving a $600,000 electrical power improvement project for the Orange County Great Park in Irvine.

Construction, aimed at completion by the end of the year, will include trenching, installing electrical equipment, underground utilities and fencing, and replacing existing asphalt pavement.

The project is part of the first phase of a $65.5 million Western Sector Development Plan. Nearly $6 million of the first-phase funds have been set aside for recycled water and electrical power development and construction, as approved by the City Council in October last year.

Runway demolition, hangar rehabilitation, art and culture exhibition space, citrus trees, parking, community gardens, soccer fields and a multi-purpose pavilion are all part of the first-phase plan.
