2010 Census, continued ...

The committee is the most active one in Orange County, adds Babayi.

And that's good news for local census officials, who are working to increase the percentage of residents who respond. Babayi says 76 percent filled out the questionnaires in 2000, the last time the census was taken. This year's goal? To increase that number by 20 percent.

Babayi stresses the importance of census data, which is an important measure of our region's future planning, transportation and housing needs. It serves as a key indicator for the county's trends, and it could even help to attract new businesses to the region.

The questionnaires will be mailed out nationwide on March 15, with Census Day – when households are supposed to respond by – set for April 1.
