Irvine named safest city, continued ...
Kang says achieving the distinction is a collaborative effort that is reflected in the Irvine Police Department's motto: "In partnership with the community."
Irvine officials credit planning, city leadership, police and private partnerships, as well as the support of the community for the ranking.
Irvine was also named the safest large city in California earlier in 2009, also for the fifth consecutive year.
