![]() The platform was previously developed by the two firms under government sponsorship, and the agreement has been informally in effect for some time. Moving forward, the two companies will share production responsibilities and intellectual property related to the clip-on systems. This will include support on the anticipated $38 million contract from Naval Surface Warfare Center that Optics 1 garnered to provide the products for special operations forces. The Clip-on Thermal Imager system could be added to about 1 million night-vision goggles in the military inventories, according to a statement from Irvine Sensors. The product is designed to clip onto military night-vision goggles. It is expected to provide users with thermal images that accompany the amplified low-light pictures that such goggles currently provide. Another advantage is the products can provide images in circumstances where obstacles, atmospheric conditions or lack of light prevents the goggles from performing to their full capability. Irvine Sensors is a vision-systems firm that develops and markets miniaturized infrared and electro-optical cameras, image processors and stacked chip assemblies. The company conducts research related to high-density electronics, optical interconnection technology and high-speed network security among other areas.
