![]() The award showcases the athlete whose performance on the field outpaced the athlete's salary by the widest margin, and when Cassel was thrust into the position during the first quarter of New England's opening game, it sealed the deal for some. Cassel earned just over $500,000 this season, with All-Pro numbers of more than 3,600 yards and 21 touchdowns, leading his team to 11 wins. Cassel won the award with 43 percent of the votes from loyal fans who voted at vizio.com between Jan. 7-21. His competitors were Steve Slaton of the Houston Texans, Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos, Antonio Bryant of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay's Nick Collins. "It's an honor to be recognized by Vizio as a candidate and the fans as the Vizio Top Value Performer," says Cassel. "This shows that dedication, cooperation and perseverance can go a long way in helping one overcome adversity and striving toward their goals. Thus, I must give special thanks to my teammates, coaches and all of our fans for their tremendous support and encouragement this past season." The five original candidates were selected by retired general managers, including Pittsbugh's Tom Donahoe and Green Bay's Ron Wolf – they identified the candidates whose performances were most valuable to their franchises in relation to their salaries, based on regular season individual performance and statistics, team success and their roles compared. Now in its second year, the first award went to David Garrard of the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose emergence last season earned him a full-time starting quarterback position and a renewed multi-million-dollar contract.
