Irvine-based Earthpack, developer and manufacturer of premium recycled packaging, unveiled its newly trademarked Tapipack bags last week. The eco-friendly plastic-style bags are made from tapioca roots, a renewable, rapid growing root and are 100 percent biodegradable and compostable. Manufactured using the same machinery as a regular plastic bag, the Tapipack bags are made from the starch of the tapioca root, as opposed to the polyethylene used for traditional plastic bags. The tapioca starched-base formula provides environmentally conscious disposability, biodegradability, clean incineration – constituting a positive, responsible product lifecycle. The bags will break down within one year of disposal.
