Irvine's Fisker signs 32 North American dealerships

Retailers will market automaker's Karma sedan, plug-in hybrids.

Irvine-based Fisker Automotive is signing 32 North American retailers to market and service the green automaker's luxury plug-in hybrids. The dealerships will begin with Fisker's nearly $88,000 Karma sedan later this year.

Among the company's network is Shelly Automotive Group in Irvine, as well as retailers in New York, Florida and Ohio. All the dealerships are well established and accustomed to working with premium brands – Shelly Automotive markets BMWs and Mercedes-Benz, among others – and many are family-owned, active in their communities and are committed to offering vehicles that are energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

"Our retail partners are our most important assets," says Vic Doolan, a Fisker board member who has guided the development of the company's retail partners. "To our customers, they are the face of the company. For that reason, we've chosen those who will give Fisker owners the comfort and confidence to drive the future."

The company believes its low startup costs and floor plans, which only include demonstrator and display cars, are among the reasons why it can attract new franchises – even in a down economy. Fisker's showrooms will reflect its commitment to the environment and will showcase the cars' emission-free capabilities. Natural and sustainable materials will be used in the architecture of the rooms, and a solar-powered car port will keep test autos fully charged.
