![]() The revamp of the 23-year-old destination was launched after The Irvine Co. took over the property in late 2005 – before the economy plunged. And despite the tough climate, the renovation continued and was completed in phases, offering O.C. professionals and visitors a luxurious space for both relaxation and business. “We are thrilled to unveil the ‘new Island’ and to set exacting new standards for business and leisure travelers in Southern California,” says Richard Evanich, the hotel’s managing director. “This is an exciting time for us as we continue to raise the bar for luxury, service and amenities in Orange County and beyond.” The completion of the project comes as the resort garnered Five Diamond status from the Automobile Association of America for the 17th straight year. Designed by L.A.-based Darrell Schmidt Design Associates, the makeover mixes casual elegance with a modern look and feel, further positioning the Island as a chic urban retreat in the heart of Orange County.
