Santa Ana-based Iteris Inc. secured a $1.1million contract to operate and maintain a 511 traffic information hotline that the company had installed for the Inland Empire.

Part of a cooperative agreement with the Riverside County Transportation Commission and the San Bernardino Associated Governments, the IE511 system provides comprehensive, multi-media traffic and transit information for the region.

“Thanks to Iteris’ traveler information system services, residents and commuters now have vital up-to-date and pertinent information, and we can assist them in making the best decision possible for how to travel in the Southern California region,” says Robert Yates, the commission’s multimodal services director.  “It is logical to continue with Iteris to keep the service at peak performance to serve the needs of the residents, commuters and freight operators in both counties.”

The system features an interactive map that displays CHP-reported traffic alerts and an interactive voice response telephone system.

Iteris develops advanced technologies aimed at reducing traffic congestion, minimizing pollution and improving the safety of transportation systems.

Iteris will manage the Internet map and telephone system, which covers the region of some 4 million residents. Staff will be on call around the clock and report regularly to the commission with system information and user statistics.
