Among them: Commercial carrier flight operations jumped nearly 5 percent, and total aircraft operations rose 7.4 percent compared to October 2008. There were 19,227 takeoffs and landings last month, up from 17,903. General aviation activity, which accounted for about 60 percent of aircraft operations last month, spiked 11.1 percent from October 2008. The only decline came in commuter carrier operations, which fell 13.4 percent.
