Developed by Jamboree, an Irvine-based nonprofit housing company, Granite Court will offer affordable residences to families earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income, which is about $86,100 for a family of four. For example, a family of four earning $46,500 will pay around $1,208 per month in rent for a three-bedroom home. Rent ranges from $523 to $1,312 based on both family size and income level.

It's good news for Orange County, which like other counties throughout the U.S., is struggling under the weight of the economic crisis. The region had an unemployment rate of 8.3 percent in April.

Located on 1.23 acres at 2853 Kelvin Ave., Granite Court contains 71 apartment homes, 20 of which are one bedroom, 20 have two bedrooms and 31 offer three bedrooms. The four-story building is situated on two levels of underground parking. Among the other amenities: a courtyard with shaded seating and dining areas, barbecues, a community center, computer lab and laundry facilities.

Jamboree Housing also will offer residents its Housing with HEART program, which provides free, on-site supportive services and courses developed to meet the needs of the residents. Services include homework assistance for children; consumer credit counseling; and homeownership preparation.
