John Wayne Airport, continued ...

Among the other projects that may incur savings: Construction of a parking structure was expected to cost about $51 million, but a low bid has been made for $34 million; passenger boarding bridges were projected to run for $15 million, but a contract was awarded for about $8 million; and parking structure demolition was approximated to be $10 million – an agreement was struck for $6.5 million.

But the total cost of the project – as well as some of its larger pieces, including the terminal – has not been resolved. The airport hopes to award contracts for Terminal C and Parking Structure C in July.

The Airport Improvement Program includes a third, multilevel Terminal C with six bridged aircraft gates that's expected to be completed by 2012; upgrades and refurbishments to Terminals A and B; a new parking structure with more than 2,000 spaces and a replacement parking structure with 1,200 spots; kiosk redesign; and new landscaping and seating in the Ground Transportation Center.
