"Our custom-built headquarters and dedicated design center were conceived to serve as a distinctive architectural gateway to the city of Irvine and reaffirms our commitment to the U.S. market," says John Yoon, vice president of human resources and administration, and general counsel for Kia.
He says the award highlights Kia's work to remain at the forefront of design in all areas of its business.
The honor is among a number of developments announced by the automaker this week alone: Kia's first U.S.-built vehicle – the 2011 Sorento – was manufactured at its plant in West Point, Ga. The move officially opened the first U.S.-based production facility for Kia. What's more, the company's 2010 Soul also garnered recognition from the Active Network Inc. and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The International Architecture Awards are presented by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd.
