Irvine-based Kia Motors to offer HD Radio

Select 2010 models will provide digital radio services with no extra costs.

Kia Motors America Inc. is installing HD Radio receivers into select new models beginning in 2010. Kia sedan and SUV drivers will experience digital AM and FM HD Radio broadcasting with no subscription fees.

With the new addition, which comes in response to growing consumer demand for advanced services in the vehicle, Kia aims at providing more radio choice with better sound quality.

HD Radio, available to 84 percent of Americans, offers a variety of digitally delivered music from international programming to the NASCAR and Psychic Channels. HD Radio will give Kia drivers easy access to traffic and weather updates, emergency alerts, and sports scores.

“Kia has always been dedicated to creating cars that are dynamic with high value, quality and safety, and the integration of HD Radio devices into our vehicles will further enhance the Kia value story,” says Michael Sprague, vice president of marketing. “As we move the brand forward with exciting new designs, it is important we keep an eye on technology and offering HD Radio technology is the latest example of how we plan to enhance the Kia ownership experience.”
