Laura’s House, a nonprofit organization committed to stopping the cycle domestic abuse, announced Monday that it had received a generous donation of $2,500 from Body Awareness Physical Therapy, which has locations in Costa Mesa and San Clemente.

The donation will be used to purchase a craft table, kid-sized chairs and two baby cribs for the childcare room at the Laura’s House Counseling and Resource Center.

The mission of Laura’s House is to change the social beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence. Additionally, the organization provides a safe space where individuals and families affected by abuse can find protection and empowerment.

“The holiday season can be a very difficult time for many, and the recent economic downturn certainly places additional strain on individuals and families,” says Margaret Bayston, executive director, Laura’s House. “We are very grateful for the continued outpouring of support from local corporations and small business owners like Chrissie Morgan, founder of Body Awareness Physical Therapy.

Annually, Laura’s House provides residential shelter services to more than 200 women and children, counseling to more than 600 clients and legal services to more than 700 people. Crisis hotline calls number near 1,200.

“We have been fortunate to receive many patient referrals of patients from numerous doctors at both of Body Awareness locations, and felt that there was no better way to share our good fortune than with this important safe haven in our community,” says Chrissie Morgan, founder, Body Awareness Physical Therapy. “Laura’s House provides an invaluable service to the community, and it warms my heart to be able to help this organization during a time of great need.”
